Big fish on little flies

So this happened today:

  1. I have to admit that for a long time I was stymied about the obsession with carp. I would proudly puff out my chest and declare, I'm a trout fisherman. After two years of trying, I'm still carpless! Now I know.

    1. I hear that all the time. Carp don't any respect...until you try to catch one. Then they demand it. The great thing about fly fishing is you can ( and should) learn something new everyday.

I have landed on carp in my lifetime with the fly rod and it took at least 10 minutes or more to bring it to hand with my 3 wt. so I guess I have had my carp experience for a while. Thanks for sharing

    1. They are great fighters. But I think I love the challenge of sight fishing them more, maybe. Something about sneaking up on a fish that doesn't try to hide and getting close enough to land a fly with in their comfort zone. Of course the drag screaming run that immediately follows is also exciting!

    1. I'm only guessing but around 45lbs and 4ft long. It was way to much fish for me to handle with 1 hand and try to get a picture with the camera phone in the other hand. It ate a #12 dry fly, no name b/c I haven't perfected it just yet. Gonna test it a few more times this week, I'll send you a picture on FB.
