What day is it?

I've been so busy lately coaching softball (2 teams, several games...not on the same nights, and practices), plus the regular daily stuff that life throws in your face...like the A/C dies, and a few events at school...needless to say I haven't had much time to fish.

Nothing changed, but I found a few hours yesterday.  I say "found", but in reality I neglected something important to maintain my sanity and hit the water knowing I'd only have about 3 hours.

Well, I figured that was enough time to swim a few of the bugs I have been tying.  Good news was, a few actually caught fish.  Bad news is, I still suck...caught the small one, and lost the big one....just another day at the office.

It was pretty much a lesson in humility.  Most of my time was spent paddling or dealing with the wind.  Seemed that no matter what direction I wanted to go, it was always in to a head wind.  Not to mention all the times my fly line got entangled with the floating frog super highway.

Don't let my sarcasm fool you.  It was good to be out!

  1. This wind thing sucks. It's been brutal here all spring.

As for the losing the big one thing, it's a tough part of kayak fishing. The big ones make you change angles a lot to keep pressure on them. Doing that from a seated position is harrrd sometimes. All part of the game

    1. Wish it was b/c I was seated. But I don't sit down very often. Standing makes the wind worse but like you mentioned, it's about angels and keeping pressure on them. The older, wiser bass know how to get back into the salad....and we have a lot of salad around here.

  2. Well, there's nothing wrong with spending the day paddling in nice looking water.

    1. Sometimes that's enough, isn't it! Being out on the water makes everything better.

  3. Drew, that water your fishing sure does look froggy (or Snakey for that matter), but, beautiful to be sitting on. I am confident your fish will come sooner than later. Thanks for sharing your outing.

    1. Saw hundreds of small frogs, a few snakes...no alligators (surprised). In a few weeks the popper/frog bite will be in full swing. Lots of fish in this lake. The challenge is getting to them and then getting them out. It'll be fun.

Isn't it strange how the wind will follow you all over the lake. Just when you think you are out of it's power it finds you again and screws up any chance you might have making that perfect cast to that spot you know you are going to land that monster bass or gill. What an awesome place you were fishing there, has to have to nice gills. Thanks for sharing

    1. It's know for crappie, so I'm sure it's got some big gills also. It's still a favorite place to fish so I'll deal with the wind. It wasn't too bad...just not great for fly fishing, and I really wanted to catch a few on the fly. Hard headed!
