I've had one opportunity to fish for white bass in a Colorado reservoir while on a feeding frenzy. It was crazy. They would launch themselves at lures dangling out of the water and impale themselves. What fun and good eating to!
Drew! Nice post! Thanks for sharing. Learned tons. Once a year we look forward to chasing smallies on one of our reservoirs nothing like you are able to chase; however, taking bass on the fly is awesome!
You're right, it is awesome. You don't need waders, the fly's are SO much easier to tie on, and you don't have to worry about your drift. The only bad thing I can think of is the need for bug spray b/c of the mosquitoes....we have lots of big ones in SEAR (even in the winter).

ReplyDeleteI look forward to the white bass run all year. It only lasts a few weeks but it's a good reward for enduring winter. Great kick off to spring fishing.
DeleteI'm ready...I was thinking about planning a white bass / hybrid trip coming up here very soon. A nice lead-in to smallie season!
ReplyDeleteI agree, those whites get the motor running and I cant shut it down.

ReplyDeleteWhite bass or Strips on the fly is a blast, the only way I have ever landed the fish--thanks for sharing
Those whites are an all-around good time. Keep you busy, pull hard, and predicable...like you said, a blast!
